Music Class
Cahuenga Elementary School currently has two music classes opportunities in addition to the music instruction provided by classroom teachers. We offer Chorus and Orchestra.
Orchestra consists of standards-based approaches to music education with careful consideration of developmental windows of opportunity.
- Admission is based on musical readiness (as determined by orchestra teacher), classroom performance (as determined by classroom teacher), and teacher recommendation.
- Orchestra is available for select students in grades 3-5.
- Orchestra is held on Mondays.
- Orchestra includes the violin, cello, clarinet, flute, trumpet, and trombone.
Cahuenga Chorus consists of standards-based approaches to music education with careful consideration of developmental windows of opportunity.:
- Admission is based on musical readiness (as determined by choral teacher), classroom performance (as determined by classroom teacher), and teacher recommendation.
- The general/vocal music program provides the opportunity for selected students grades 2-5 to sing in the Cahuenga Chorus.
Some of the overlapping activities/approaches employed are:
- Listening time, a vital step in the process of internalizing and performing music
- Kodaly-based singing, sight-singing (reading), inner ear development, improvisation and by-ear playing – all of which are especially conducive to phonemic awareness.
- Music Appreciation from State Adopted texts – fuel for the imagination which also zeroes in on audiation skills.
